RANZCR EPOS™, the new Electronic Presentation Online System
The College’s Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) moved from traditional hardcopy posters to electronic presentations in 2007, and in 2010 the electronic presentation system will take on a different electronic format using an Electronic Presentation Online System (EPOS™) which was developed in 2003 by the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) and remains a permanent online database of scientific and educational presentations – click here for more information

Summary of Abstract Submission Instructions
Please read through the submission instructions listed below before preparing your abstract:
Step 1: Read the General Policies and Requirements for the submission of abstracts.
Step 2: Write your abstract following the Abstract Format and Layout Guidelines.
Step 3: Download Scientific Paper, Scientific Exhibit, Educational Exhibit or Oral and Poster Template and insert/add your abstract text. Save as a .doc document to your computer. Abstracts must not exceed 300 word limit.
NOTE: This word limit excludes national and international invited speakers who can submit an abstract of 500 words.
Step 4: Complete the online Abstract Submission Form (facility to be made available here on 10 January 2011). It will be necessary to upload the .doc copy of your abstract.

Invited Speakers – International Guest Faculty
Please note that all International Invited Speakers are not restricted to the 300 word limit and are invited to submit full papers of their work. Please use the supplied template formatting guidelines and submit the abstract.
Invited Speakers – Australian and New Zealand Guest Faculty
Please note that all Australian and New Zealand Guest Faculty Speakers are not restricted to the 300 word limit and are invited to submit an abstract of 500 words in length. Please use the supplied template formatting guidelines and submit the abstract.
Notification of Acceptance
All abstracts will be peer reviewed. Abstracts will be blind reviewed (reviewers will be blind to the author details and institution(s) of origin). Notifications of acceptance will be sent via e-mail to the submitting author at the end of May 2011. Scientific Papers submitted for oral presentations that cannot be accommodated within the meeting program will be considered and reviewed for a place in the Scientific Exhibits / Educational Exhibits / Posters.
Accepted abstracts will be published in the meeting proceedings. The oganisers will not be held responsible for abstract submissions not received via the website or for submission errors caused by internet service outages, hardware or software delays, power outages or unforeseen events.
Speaker Registration
The invitation to make an oral or poster presentation does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the meeting with the exception of some awards and prizes. Refer to the Abstracts Awards page for more details.
All speakers must register and pay the appropriate registration fee for the conference by 15 July 2011 to have their abstracts published.
General Policies and Requirements
Abstracts for the RANZCR Melbourne 2011 Meeting will be called in January 2011.
1. All abstracts will be reviewed by the following criteria and the top ranking abstracts will be selected for an oral presentation:
- Importance of the topic
- Originality
- Quality of study design
- Academic contribution
- Likelihood of provoking discussion
2. All abstracts must be original work. An abstract should not be submitted if the work is to be published/presented at a major national or international meeting prior to RANZCR Melbourne 2011. The purpose of the abstract is to define the precise subject of the presentation to an audience.
3. Educational Exhibits should be designed to teach or review radiologic signs, pathologic correlations, procedures, techniques, treatments, and interventions or other aspects related to the practice of imaging.
4. Submission acknowledges consent to publication of the abstract on the website; all accepted abstracts will be published in the meetings proceedings and maybe published in the association’s journal.
5. The presenting author will be required to register for the meeting in order to ensure their abstract(s) is included in the final program. Deadline for presenting author registration is 15 July 2011.
6. Please print a copy of the abstract submission form for your records prior to clicking the submit button.
7. All submissions must be completed electronically via the online submission facility.

8. All abstracts must be prepared according to the guidelines provided. Abstracts will be published as submitted.
9. All presenting authors must include a 50 word biography with their abstract submission.
Disclosure Statement
All presenters and chairs/facilitators of sessions are expected to disclose to the audience any significant financial interest or other relationship with:
- The manufacturer/s of any commercial product/s and/or provider/s of commercial services discussed in a presentation.
- Any commercial supporters of the presentation.
The intent of this disclosure is not to prevent a presenter or chair with a significant or other relationship with a commercial company from making a presentation, but rather to enable audience members to form their own opinions as to whether a presentation is biased or not. It remains for the audience to determine whether the speaker’s interest or relationships have influenced the presentation.
Significant financial interest or other relationship may include such things as:
- Support of individual or department research.
- Any support or financial incentives, current or past, which relate to the subject matter of the current presentation.
- Any stock ownership or options, employment, loan or financial relationship with a company whose product or service is directly connected to the topic of the presentation.
- Being a consultant for a company whose product or service would be directly affected by the subject matter of the current presentation.
Presentations must be free of any commercial bias:
- No commercial literature or audio visual material may be used.
- Trade or commercial names should be avoided unless necessary for clarity.
Abstract Format and Layout Guidelines
- Abstracts should be a summary of the paper or exhibit and must not exceed 300 words (not including title, author(s) and affiliations). An abstract must contain sufficient information so that if published it will be a complete report independent of presentation. The text should not contain statements alluding to results or conclusions not presented within the text.
- Abstracts must be single spaced with a clear line between paragraphs.
- Abstracts must be free of typographical and grammatical errors.
- Tables, graphs, images and references must not be included. These abstracts will not be published.
- Standard abbreviations may be used for common terms only. Otherwise, any abbreviation should be given in brackets after the first full use of the word. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract.
- Scientific symbols must be spelt out in full English; symbols must not be used within abstracts.
A properly submitted abstract will include the following elements:
Title
The abstract title should be short, informative and contain the major key words. It should be in Title case, Arial, bold, 10 pt size, and left justified.
Authors
Abstract titles should be followed by authors’ first initial and last name. Superscript numbers must be used to indicate the author’s institution, followed by city, state and country (in this order). Do not include degrees or professional titles (e.g. Dr, Prof., etc).
